I have continued to work on the concrete in the negative spaces and have started working on the stone textures...layering graphite with a 2h wood pencil and a 2hb mechanical pencil for those darker details...for darker shadow areas in the concrete I have also layered with 5b wood over 2h and 2hb.
Also selective blending with tissue and a stomp and pulling graphite out with a kneaded erasure, and more layers of graphite until I achieved the look and texture of concrete beneath the rocks.
The dancers are more apparent now in the negative space.

Aaahhh you finished it and it looks great!
Peachtreeart,
Nope, not done yet:)...still lots of rocks to roll:) Glad you like it so far.
Very interesting...I like to follow along.
Very nice so far! And I had wondered where you got the title for this!
This is wonderful sequence Thank you for sharing
Yeah, I am pretty sure this is going to be something big! It's already showing all the super fine details ^^ keep it coming Laura :)
I think the unfinished image has stayed with me because now and then something similar has popped into my mind, and I've been thinking how nice it would be to do something like this. I really like the composition, subtlety and texture.
Deborah,
I peeked in at your blog and I love it! It seems a novel idea to do your sketching on envelopes from your travels...with the postmark to tell you where and when!
I'm glad that you are enjoying this and thanks for following along.
Raena,
You have a lovely way with water colors and I like your style. As for the title...If you look among the rocks ther appears to be 2 figures dancing at least that is what I see in the negative space. :) Hence... "Stonedance"
Phyllis,
Thanks for looking and stick around there's more to come. Sorry, it takes me awhile to finish a drawing. You do lovely colored pencil work!
Alex,
Thanks for stopping by again and I have to tell you I don't know how "BIG" this is going to be but it will be a good journey...lots of things to learn about texture and composition as well as light and shadow:).
Sorry, Dan, I guess we crossposted.
Thank you for your comment. Sometimes we just get lucky...but as I said earlier this still has a long way to go. I'm not going to try to estimate how long becasue I've never done anything like this before. It will be far more complex then it is now. I'll have to decide what to leave in and what to leave out of the original reference. I'm afraid if I'm not careful that this will end up having a busy feel to it because of to much going on. If it's to busy then the negative space won't be so obvious to the viewer and that is what I want to stand out!
Again thanks for commenting!
